About Us

Welcome to Making Math Matter! I am “Ms. Tena” and for the past 17 years I have had the pleasure of being an instructional leader and curriculum liaison in many diverse school districts. Ranging from rural Alaska to urban Philadelphia, I have been lucky enough to work with some incredible school systems and be an agent of math change for their district. Through all my years of modeling lessons for teachers with real students present, I have been lovingly dubbed “Ms. Tena” by hundreds of students. I have been very lucky to bring the excitement for and the understanding of math to these teachers and students alike. This has made me both humble and proud of the work I do. The main goal in all my work is to provide those in education with the tools to bring about student achievement and mathematical proficiency. My focus is on helping teachers gain deep conceptual knowledge and master the proven instructional practices that make math learning tangible, accessible, and complex for all learners. I have found myself invested in the lives of teachers and students all over this great nation. Even after my work concludes, I have teachers still calling, texting, and emailing me for advice, resources, and to plan together. I love that I remain a part of the schools that I have been able to assist. My work includes all grades (K-12) and all abilities. In this every changing world, I am happy that Making Math Matter also offers virtual training and planning options as well as in-person professional development and coaching. This way the learning never stops! It is with a great love for math and a sincere drive to see all children succeed that Making Math Matter has become my life’s purpose. I look forward to working with your school and bringing about growth, passion, and a love for math.
